About This Content The LNER Peppercorn K1 locomotives were built between 1949 and 1950, with the intention of splitting them between the North Eastern and Eastern Regions. Many K1s would regularly be seen as far north as Edinburgh and they were frequently used on the West Highland line in the early days. Many were later allocated to the Eastern Region with a large number going to March, Cambridgeshire. K1's were used throughout the former LNER network and proved to be very versatile, working everything from local coal trains to express passenger services.The K1’s were withdrawn and scrapped by 1967: however, No. 62005 was used for a short time as an emergency boiler and consequently survived into preservation. If you're thinking about getting, or even trying, a steam loco, get this one, it's a real gem. Really. Read the manual first, it will save you lot of time (even if you're already familiar with steam locos). And then practice practice practice. (P.S. I like all traction types, but steam has it's own magic you won't get with diesel or electic). Lovely loco for a lovely route to be very blunt. Good scenarios ranging from freight work to passenger runs in all types of weather all over the route so you'll be kept busy thanks to Victory Works and their attention to detail.. In my opinion, this is a great loco to drive. She looks really good, the textures are great quality, the sounds are great and immersive, and the steam effects are really good.In advanced mode, she's a real challenge to drive - it will test your skills!In "normal" mode, driving is still fun and engaging but noticably easier.There is also a new "heads out" view in the cab views, meaning that when you cycle through the cab views, one of the positions you will stick your head out of the window and if you turn your head to the right, you can still operate all the normal cab controls with the mouse (unlike the standard "Shift-2" head out view of the simulator itself).This is really for driving and keeping an eye out on the road.The scenarios that come with the engine are diverse and engaging, from a relatively easy passenger run to challenging runs with heavy freight trains over steep grades.The package is very complete, containing all liveries and many variations of the engine, and a lot of new freight wagons.All in all, this is one of the best steam engines published for TS2016 so far and a lot of fun to drive.The usual high VictoryWorks quality, and improving on his previous locos in a lot of respects!Absolutely recommended, and an absolute steal for this money!. Having shied away from purchasing further Steam locomotive DLC due to past dissapointments in performance and simulation quality (not from Victory Works), I was extremely interested in this particular model due to the apparent painstaking efforts taken by the modelers to provide a Steam locomotive that is more akin to what I have always wanted in Train Simulator but have repeatedly been foiled.All I can say is WOW! Victory Works, I tip my hat to this most excellent production, you have indeed set the bar for all other Steam locomotive modelers. Finally when I am on the foot-plate I really feel like I am on the footplate. Being somewhat hardcore, I only have used the locomotive in Advanced mode thus far, but can attest that all control scripting works equally well with Raildriver or keyboard.The little touches are great but finally we have two additions to Steam simulation which I believe are real winners and the way forward here:1). Steam Chest pressure gauge - Virtual steam chest pressure means that you now have visual feedback on the tractive effort being applied, and you need that gauge because with it we finally have a steam locomotive that models wheel-slip, both visible and audible.2). A graphical representation of the fireman's shovel, this is more practical than it sounds because it is used to both set and indicate the amount of firing effort being applied, my previous experience was that there was no real indication of firing rate; you could change it via mapped keys, but there was no graphical feedback apart from messing around with HUD settings.This locomotive is challenging (in advanced mode), but the rewards of mastering these challenges give you a great sense of satisfaction. The only criticism I could think of was that the provided scenarios begin with a full boiler, as a result it is imperative that you leave those cylinder-\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665 open until you begin to see a gap appear in the sight glasses, and if you are in doubt you can always perform a blow-down check to be certain. Failing to keep the cylinder-\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665 open for a while initially, will have catastrophic results . Other than this small gripe I can honestly say that this locomotive is going to be a tough act to follow by other modelers.Again, I must stress that do not have much in the way of Steam Locomotive DLC, as such I may have missed on other quality model simulacra, but when the only option is to "pay your money and take your chances", I decided to stop taking further chances period. Thus I qualify my above remarks; it may be that there is other Steam Locomotive DLC out there that is an equal to this, but not to my limited knowledge.. By far one of the best Loco's in Railworks the k1 is right on the mark and In response to the unplayable Advanced mode stated in another review......READ THE MANUAL it tells all there are no issues with the reverser in advanced mode if you are thinking about getting this engine just get it, it really is worth the money
