We have been working hard on the environments and improving Prospekt over the last months. We have added a tonne of new stuff to reflect the game, the lore, the overall feel. We have heard people come up with some great ideas. The main thing to take away from this is, we are extensively overhauling the game to make it much more in line with a full product. i.e everything gets a 2017 remake, if it looks old. It will be spruced up to modern day standards. So, we're talking all new 3D assets and hopefully a much more fun gameplay experience.We still have work to do on this scene however as you are a devoted community we think that is a decent enough standard to show you a current WIP. Like i said before, things will take time as we are working on replacing a lot of aging assets with custom content now, freshly modeled for the 2017 side of things.Some things that have aged well we will keep, but if we think it needs to be upgraded that's on the list.I will be honest with you, production has slowed due to me working on my second title, which i feel is time now as an artist and designer that I want to start moving on. Also coupled with the fact that I have a job now at a University. Therefore things are going a little slow in terms of my personal content creation. I must emphasise that this does NOT mean I will stop working on Prospekt. However i now need to start to work on my next steps as a designer and my career. I obviously want to bring more than just one game to the world for people to enjoy and I feel now is the right time to start to do that. If you want to support me on my journey designing my second game then I would love to have you along on the journey. However I feel we have galvanised a very strong team behind the game now. We have some team members that have really improved their personal game design skills and it's been a pleasure to work with them. They are continuing to work on the game with me as well so all in all, the pace hasn't come to a grinding halt or anything so don't panic! I feel this is a good number. The scope of the update has changed somewhat because of the increase in team size but we know what we want to achieve for the Black Forest update. Hope you’re good, just thought I would drop an update into you after the script/letter/story that Mr. Laidlaw wrote and put up online the other day. I have been a fan of this universe for as long as I can remember. It shaped my childhood and the way I viewed games entirely. I could spend and I have spent hours talking about it. As much as I knew that Episode 3 / HL3 would not be produced I really thought there was some hope that I would be wrong. There is still a part of me that hopes Mr. Laidlaw is being Earth's biggest troll and they will announce a new Half-Life based title soon. But if you read between the lines of his writing… Well personally and I hope i'm wrong. But it tells me what we all don't really want to hear. Its very sad that we will not get to see the ending to the most hyped game of all time and if it's true, to say goodbye to it in a few pages of writing, well, personally I am absolutely gutted. For me what was a joke about HL3 being CONFIRMED has now quickly become a meme that will never become a reality. Which really sucks, and we (us) as a community will never actually be able to say HL3 CONFIRMED and it actually means that which I feel is also pretty sad. The thing im most saddened by is the fact we will never find out who G-man was. I had an idea of what would happen in HL3 / EP3 and I feel i touched on that relatively well. But now there is some rough clarity, I think we can expand on that and think about some ideas. The good thing about Prospekt is that it's open to being extended and that its story can go anywhere and we can add new chapters to the game, we can extend its storyline and we can do well… whatever we want to some extent. I think... well, i think that we would all like to play something that ties up the actual story, and I think that maybe I/we can try and do something with that. It will take a long time. But considering nothing is happening anyway, maybe we can do something in the future and better late than never is better than nothing ever. I’m not sure myself yet, I would have to get around the table and talk to people. But if this is it and were never getting anymore Half-Life. Well, then id like to try and deliver some more for the entire community to enjoy and hopefully expand the story and explain some things. I can't promise anything but we will see. Hope you are all well. Rich. It's been a while.: Hey everyone, Rich here. Well well well... It’s been quite some time since our last update. You’re probably all eager to find out what is to come so let me get you all up to speed. Firstly, big thank you to everyone that is reviewing the game lately as it seems the game is really starting to shift in the right direction even if it has taken 2 years and the decimation of my soul. Were close to 60% now and i'm sure with more updates and support we can get the game even better. I’ve taken a back seat with Prospekt lately as some of you may know i'm working on my second game Gunsmith which is due for launch very soon. I have chipped in now and then, provided 3D models, design tips and some guidance on getting work more professional. I have to say a massive well done to the guys that are working on Prospekt now as they are improving their skills and craft to make some really top quality work. We are making progress on the game in all directions, some faster than others. For example, we have the mapping pretty much solid. We can map what we want, when we want, and to a very high standard now. David ( Phenomene ) as some of you may know him as. Has done some brilliant work on improving existing levels and making entirely new ones. But we know that in order to improve the game we need more than just more maps. Which is why we are focusing on a better narrative ( which includes new and existing characters in the Half-Life universe ) to add to the story. We also know we need new items and experiences ( which includes new weapons and challenges ). I'm not at liberty to say right now what new characters are coming as it would be a massive spoiler for all of you but I think you will love it when it is finished. Hidden ( our character and weapons 3D modeler ) Is doing a great job at refining one of our main characters and he is shaping up nicely. One big issue in particular that I have been pondering. How do you update a linear game so that we introduce improvements but not spoil what is to come or change the entire game without other parts being ready to supplement this. It’s a tough one. We do have changes we could push now up to the game. But the effect would be well, meh. What I ideally would like is to have a really large almost 2.0 style update where people want to replay the entire game. If we trickle feed all our improvements this effect I feel will fall flat. However, I also don’t want you all to be waiting around for a long time with no new content to play so i’m thinking about introducing some extra content via the bonus maps to keep things fun while the wait is on. It’s a tricky one but we will find a way. I know you have waited a long time for this update so I will confirm a few things so you have something to look forward to. Firstly, the infamous wrench will be making a comeback. This will also be accompanied by the Desert Eagle and a new Shotgun. All of these are working and in game. They are still currently being worked on and I only really want to show them off officially when they are done. I will also confirm the new view model is shaping up nicely. All of these things I need to put some time aside to re-texture in Substance Painter. When you read this Pheno i am sorry I still have not done this please don’t hate me. So to begin with I guess ill say today is the Prospekt 1 Year anniversary. Exactly one year ago I got an email saying Project-X has now been Greenlit. What a crazy year it has been. Being given permission to design for video gaming's most prestigious brand has been incredible. Massive highs and massive lows. Endless work periods, sleepless nights. Conferences in Colonge and London, online meetings with people in Seattle.A new business was born. Many contracts signed, thousands of dollars and pounds exchanged. Met some great people. Over 1 million people have visited the store page, at one point peaking at 10,000 people a minute. Articles in every major and minor video game press outlet both online and in print magazine oh and don't forget BBC news, that was crazy. Then both the hatred and love from thousands of people.If you would have said this would be my future three years ago when I started this project. I would have called you crazy. But here I am, and I'm super grateful to Valve for letting me do this. I Look forward to continuing to work with them in the future to make more great games. To anyone who has an idea they truly believe in i'd say shoot and just go for it. Worst case scenario you end up back in a job similar to one you just left. Also I have decided due to the huge demand to play the closed beta to just make it an open beta because of the high demand it's just easier to keep it open. Anyway, with all that being said, I’ve been working flat out non stop on Prospekt for the last three weeks so here goes… This is what is in this update today. ( Its quite extensive. ) Changes Include :Fixed node graph issue that was causing players to have node graph on there screen rebuilding despite node graph not being needed to rebuildNew graphical improvements throughout the game by changing the final render to remove the grey tone some of you may have noticed, now when you play the game you will notice the colours are all much more defined, sharp and provide a vastly greater experience. New hunter battle vastly improved from the original Combine Power Co level which includes a dynamic arena with some destructible environments.Added more random supply crates that people were asking for through level three. Added extensive decals to levels one through three. ( I know some of you may have noticed the lack of decals in the release version of Prospekt, this was due to a complex bug that I couldn't fix in time for release unfortunately. This bug would come into effect when you would use a real time light. Regardless of where the light was shining in the map it would light up every decal to full brightness and look absolutely terrible, so I had to make the call, real time lighting, or decals. I chose the lighting. However this has now been either fixed or worked around in many areas allowing me to use both. Improved some areas for more detail in level oneGreatly improved lighting issue in Cold Water Intake New signs throughout level two and three to improve immersion and help guide the player Entirely new designed from scratch second stage of level three.New particle effects for the alternative fire on the AR2 weapon. ( I am aware the particle effect is not attached to the weapon and im working on it but couldnt get it done in time for this update ) New particle effects for the shotgun, now when you fire a round the shotgun will release a small trail of smoke. Greatly graphically improved Combine Energy Ball Generator with new particle effects, higher resolution, and sprites. Introduced new models to level three which include dynamic computers that have randomised sprite based flashy computer lights.Introduced some new small combine models that I have been working on. A new Ultra High Definition texture ( UHD ) that I would like you all to test and see how your FPS has been effected. This can be found on the power station floor Added several new textures over all that I have been working on. Increased detail of older textures in Half-Life 2 Introduced real time dynamic lighting in level three that I would also like to see how this affects people's FPS. I have Included a nice easy switch in the main menu to turn on the FPS counter. I have over done the lighting on purpose to see what peoples FPS drop will be like. It’s almost a small stress test to see how far I can push the engine on your pc’s and when I put this version out for good ill have a reasonable idea of how much dynamic lighting I can include. So if you are getting low FPS in the particular area it’s on purpose. However it is awesome to play, every hanging light can be shot out that provides a totally different combat event on each play through. I would be really greatful if you are experiencing low ~ mid FPS to tell me your system spec in the forums so I can get a good idea of peoples hardware capabilities. Removed the super annoying explosion that completely owned people if they got unlucky in the portal room of Nova Prospekt. New Font that I have designed for Prospekt based on Opposing Force. And of course most importantly of all, fixed the rather insignificant double doors that people were having a total meltdown over. ( I would also like to add, I did actually purposely design it that way, the thought being how can you open two doors at the same time when you are holding a gun in one hand but need to twist two door handles without putting the gun down? But I do agree it looks better in the game. ) Please do remember this is a beta for the time being so you may have some bugs, if you do please let me know and ill get on it. Rich here, just wanted to drop in and say that its been a crazy year this year. Being allowed to forward the Half-Life universe has been an amazing experience. This idea was literally born in the back of a garage to try and get a job at Valve and to be sitting here with Prospekt now retailing on Steam is still to this day quite a mind blowing thought. It's still tough and by no means an easy path however I wouldn't change anything as you only learn from the areas where you don't do so well.I hope in the new year I can continue to improve Prospekt for you all and advance the game into an even better place than it is now. As many of you have seen the images I put up late this year you'll know new things are coming, ive taught myself how to 3D model and now im learning C++ to try and improve my skills even more.
